What To Expect From Kybella Treatment
Based on your consultation, we’ll start the treatment by administering around 30 to 50 injections of .2mL deoxycholic acid. We space each injection one cm apart and use a 30 gauge, half-inch needle.
This treatment may take anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes to perform, depending on the size of the treatment area and the number of injections you receive. The industry often refers to this type of treatment as a “lunch hour procedure,” meaning you could have it done during a lunch break and return to work with little to no downtime.
During the treatment, you may experience a little discomfort as the deoxycholic acid breaks down your fat cells. This pain is low to moderate and will subside within the next few hours. After treatment, you’ll need to avoid strenuous activity like exercise for the next few days. You may also want to ice the treatment area to reduce soreness and minimize swelling.

These side effects should go away within a few days and, in some cases, a few weeks.
One of the rarer side effects of Kybella is severe swelling around the chin and neck area. Other rare but serious side effects of Kybella include:

Does Kybella Hurt?
The pain from the injections themselves is generally tolerable. Since we use a very small needle, the injections themselves do not hurt much. However, you may experience a moderate burning sensation moments after the first few injections. This sensation is not severe and will go away within a few hours. The area may also feel a little “warm” for a few days following treatment.
Most patients report that the pain is tolerable and manageable with over-the-counter pain medication.
