What To Expect From Skin Discoloration Treatment
Renew Aesthetic & Laser Clinic offers a variety of skin discoloration treatments to help with brown spots and redness. During your initial consultation, your provider will gather your medical history, examine your skin, and make a recommendation about which treatment or combination of treatments might be best for you.
Laser Treatments
Laser treatments available at Renew include:
- Hollywood Spectra
- Clarity II
- Lase MD Ultra
- Sofwave
- KTP/DermaLight
- Lase MD Pro
With these treatments, we work to destroy the pigment cells in the skin that cause dark spots or general age spots. The laser passes over the skin in quick bursts, often accompanied by cooling puffs of air.
If you suffer from melasma, you may need to be treated regularly, since melasma is generally a recurring issue caused by genetics or hormones.
We also offer laser treatments that target rosacea, so if you suffer from skin redness, our team at Renew can help.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels involve applying a chemical solution — such as glycolic acid, alpha-hydroxy acids, or salicylic acid — to the skin to remove the outermost layer of damaged or dead skin cells. Your provider will address your skin type, concerns, and desired results during your initial consultation to decide which chemical solution is right for you.
For maximum effectiveness in reducing melasma and redness, chemical peels should be repeated periodically.
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that uses a device to gently exfoliate the outermost layer of the skin, removing dead skin cells and impurities.
Although microdermabrasion has proven successful in smoothing the skin’s surface and softening brown spots and redness, it is not recommended for some patients with rosacea. Your provider will let you know whether you’re a good candidate for microdermabrasion during your initial consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Skin Discoloration Treatments
How Do I Know Which Skin Discoloration Treatment Is Right for Me?
During your initial consultation, your provider will collect your medical history, examine your skin, and talk through your concerns and goals. We’ll then offer our best professional recommendation on which skin discoloration treatment (or combination of treatments) will be best for your desired results.
Can Melasma Be Cured Permanently?
Melasma is linked to hormones and genetics, so it cannot be completely cured. However, with the right course of treatment, you can keep your symptoms under control.
Since melasma is often triggered and worsened by exposure to UV rays, we recommend using daily sun protection for best results. We also recommend that you repeat your melasma treatment periodically.
What Is the Root Cause of Skin Discoloration?
Skin discoloration can happen for many reasons, including:
- Hormones
- Melasma
- Allergies
- Medical conditions
- Cosmetics
- Medications
- UV radiation
- And more
What Is the Most Effective Treatment for Skin Discoloration?
Everyone will respond differently to each skin discoloration treatment available, so it’s best to talk with your Renew provider to help decide which treatment option may be most effective for your skin. Schedule a consultation to learn more.
