We may suggest one of the following treatments depending on what our consultation reveals.

Scelerotherapy

As we age, our veins tend to lose elasticity, causing the valves within to become weak or damaged and resulting in varicose veins or spider veins. 

Sclerotherapy corrects this by injecting a chemical solution into the affected veins. The solution irritates these veins, making them swell, stick together, and seal shut. Without continual blood flow, these veins fade away as the surrounding tissues absorb them, improving the look and feel of the treated area. 

This procedure can take anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes, depending on how many veins you are treating. Sclerotherapy is minimally invasive, and most patients can even drive themselves home after treatment. 

Some patients report a slight burning or tingling sensation during treatment; others say they feel little to no pain or discomfort. 

After the procedure, the treated veins may look a little worse than before. Worry not, this is the treatment doing its job. Smaller spider or varicose veins may take three to six weeks to fade completely, and larger veins may take three to four months. Depending on the extent of your condition, one or more treatments may be needed. 

Before treatment avoid:

• Taking antibiotics four weeks before treatment
• Using aspirin or prednisone 48 hours before the procedure
• Consuming alcohol 48 hours before your appointment

We advise patients to arrive at their appointment hydrated and well-rested. You may want to eat a light meal before and wear shorts or loose-fitting pants. Avoid applying lotion or body butter before or after your treatment.

KTP

KTP laser therapy is a treatment that uses thermal energy to break apart and destroy small blood vessels. By using a special light beam that is attracted to the color of blood vessels, KTP can target facial vessels and spider veins without affecting the surrounding area. 

This safe and effective procedure can take 15 to 40 minutes to complete, depending on whether you are having one or more spots treated. While KTP can be used on other areas of the body, it is most effective at treating facial vessels and spider veins in the head and neck region.

There is little discomfort and zero downtime associated with KTP laser therapy for spider veins. Avoid significant sun exposure at least one or two weeks before and after your treatment.
