What To Expect From Spider Vein Removal in Portland
In your initial consultation with our team, we will conduct a physical examination of the areas in question, review your medical history, and discuss your treatment expectations and goals. This meeting will enable us to determine the most suitable treatment option and timeline for your needs.
Based on the findings of our consultation, we may recommend one of the following treatments.
Sclerotherapy
Over time, our veins lose elasticity causing the valves within to weaken or become damaged. This causes the damaged veins to bulge and darken.
Sclerotherapy corrects the appearance of spider veins by injecting them with a chemical solution, which irritates the veins, making them swell, stick together, and seal shut. Without continuous blood flow, the veins are absorbed by the surrounding tissues and will fade away, improving their appearance.
This treatment may take anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes, depending on how many veins you are treating and the size of the area. Sclerotherapy is non-invasive; our patients usually drive themselves home after treatment.
Some of our patients report a slight burning or tingling sensation during treatment, and others claim they feel little to no pain or discomfort.
After the procedure, the treated veins may look a little worse than before. But don’t worry, this is normal and it means the treatment is working. Smaller veins may take three to six weeks to fade entirely. Larger veins may take three to four months to disappear. Depending on the severity of your condition, one or more treatments may be required to remove spider veins.
Before treatment, we advise that patients avoid:
- Taking antibiotics four weeks before the procedure
- Taking aspirin or prednisone 48 hours before your appointment
- Consuming alcohol 48 hours before treatment
Patients should arrive at their appointment well-hydrated and rested. You may want to eat a light meal before and remember to wear shorts or loose-fitting pants. We also ask that you avoid applying lotion immediately before or after the procedure.
KTP
KTP laser therapy is an FDA-approved, non-invasive procedure used to eliminate or reduce the appearance of spider veins and facial vassals. Using a special light wavelength that is attracted to the color of blood vessels, KTP can target, break up, and destroy veins with thermal energy.
The procedure may take anywhere from 15 to 40 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area. It is most effective at treating spider veins or broken capillaries in the face but can be used to treat other areas.
Patients report little to no pain during the procedure. At Renew Aesthetic & Laser Clinic, we advise patients to avoid direct sun exposure at least one to two weeks before and after their appointment.
