Spider Vein Treatment

Spider Vein Treatment
How Does Spider Vein Treatment Work?
At Renew Aesthetic Clinic, we can treat spider veins using sclerotherapy or laser treatment. Sclerotherapy, involving injection of a solution that irritates blood vessels and causes them to seal shut and fade, is the most effective way to treat larger spider veins like those that appear on the legs.

Spider Vein Treatment Benefits
Sclerotherapy is advantageous for several reasons:
- Easy recovery
- No anesthesia is needed
- Little to no downtime
- No scarring
- Improved appearance of spider veins
- Fast or immediate results
- Improved self-confidence
- Relief from pain and discomfort of spider veins

Spider Vein Treatment Areas
Spider veins are damaged blood vessels located just beneath the surface of the skin and appear as blue, red, or purple webs or branches. They are most commonly treated in the following areas:
- Legs
- Face
- Neck
- Chest
- Hands
What To Expect From Spider Vein Treatment
When you first come for a consultation with our aesthetic team, we will physically examine the area you want treated, review your medical history, and discuss the goals and expectations of treatment. Depending on your situation, we may recommend sclerotherapy or KTP laser therapy.
Sclerotherapy
A sclerotherapy treatment takes around 15-45 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated. After the solution is injected into the vein, perhaps in multiple places, the provider may massage the area. This solution causes the veins to swell, stick together, and seal shut. Since they are not receiving continuous blood flow, they will be reabsorbed by the surrounding tissue and fade.
Before this treatment, patients should:
- Avoid antibiotics for four weeks.
- Avoid aspirin, prednisone, and alcohol for two days.
- Apply lotion before and after your appointment.
- Come to your appointment well-hydrated and rested, wearing shorts or loose-fitting pants.
You may feel a slight burning or tingling sensation during treatment, but many patients experience no discomfort at all. Afterward, the veins may look slightly worse than before, but this is only temporary. Smaller veins can take three to six weeks to completely fade; larger ones can take three to four months. You will need to wear compression stockings for two to three weeks to control swelling and encourage the healing process. More severe spider veins may require multiple treatments.
KTP Laser Therapy
KTP laser therapy uses a special light wavelength that targets blood vessels, breaking them up with thermal energy. Approved by the FDA to reduce the appearance of spider veins and facial vessels, this procedure takes between 15 and 40 minutes. It works most effectively against spider veins and broken capillaries in the face, but other areas may be treated with this method as well.
Patients who’ve had this procedure reported little to no pain. The only warning associated with KTP laser therapy is that patients must avoid direct sun exposure for one to two weeks before and after treatment.
